Comprehensive Section Breakdown for Sammaan Capital
Sammaan Capital reported a net loss of ₹8,101 crore in Q4 FY2026, a sharp reversal from the prior quarter’s net profit of ₹314 crore. The loss resulted from a massive impairment charge, a steep drop in income, and higher borrowing costs. A tax benefit of ₹1,995 crore partially reduced the pre-tax loss of ₹10,097 crore.
Profit Before Tax swung from a profit of ₹419 crore in Q3 FY2026 to a loss of ₹10,097 crore in Q4. Net profit followed the same path, moving from ₹314 crore to a loss of ₹8,101 crore. These were the first losses recorded across the five quarters shown, during which quarterly PBT had ranged between ₹419 crore and ₹468 crore.
Total expenses for the quarter, calculated as income minus PBT, were ₹11,458 crore, compared to ₹1,739 crore in Q3. The increase was far larger than the impairment charge alone.
Impairment on Financial Instruments surged to ₹2,958 crore in Q4, compared to a range of a net reversal of ₹25 crore to a charge of ₹466 crore in the preceding three quarters. This charge alone accounted for about 29% of the pre-tax loss.
Total income fell 37% from the prior quarter to ₹1,361 crore, led by a 26% drop in interest earned to ₹1,105 crore. At the same time, finance costs continued their upward trend, rising 15% to ₹1,679 crore. As a result, net interest income (interest earned minus finance costs) turned deeply negative at -₹574 crore in Q4, compared to a positive ₹42 crore in Q3. This means the company’s core lending operations did not generate enough interest income to cover its own interest expense.
Tax Expense was negative ₹1,995 crore, reducing the net loss. In prior quarters, the company had reported tax expenses between ₹105 crore and ₹134 crore.
Paid-up equity share capital rose 41% during the quarter, from ₹163 crore to ₹229 crore, an addition of ₹66 crore.
Sammaan Capital Limited successfully closed the early phase of its tender offer for up to U.S.$18 million of its 9.70% Senior Secured Social Bonds due 2027. According to management, the offer was oversubscribed, prompting a scaling factor of ~15.1% for valid tenders received by the July 31, 2026 deadline. Holders who tendered early will receive U.S.$1,035 per U.S.$1,000 principal, plus accrued interest, with settlement scheduled for August 6, 2026. No additional bonds will be accepted beyond the early deadline, and all purchased bonds will be cancelled. Separately, the company certified timely payment of interest on its secured NCDs, reflecting continued compliance with debt obligations.
The quarter marked a sharp departure from Sammaan Capital’s recent profitable performance. A single large impairment provision, combined with falling interest income and rising borrowing costs, produced a net loss that far exceeded quarterly income. The equity capital increase was small relative to the loss. The results highlight significant credit provisions and a mismatch between interest earnings and funding costs during the period.
