### Technical Outlook

TATACOMM (₹1,704.90) exhibits a mixed technical posture as of 2026-11-06, characterized by weak daily momentum conflicting with a bullish monthly trend. On the daily chart, the price trades below the 20-period EMA and Supertrend, signaling short-term bearish pressure, yet remains above the 20-period SMA and 200-period SMA, providing structural support. The ADX of 17.38 indicates weak trend conviction, suggesting the current move lacks strong directional force.

Immediate resistance lies at ₹1,729.23 (1.43% above), while support is anchored at ₹1,684.47 (1.20% below). Volatility is elevated, with annualized volatility at +31.3% and an ATR of 3.37%, implying wider intraday swings. Recent candlestick formations, including an Evening Star and Bearish Engulfing pattern on 2026-11-05, highlight short-term selling interest, though these are not currently active signals.

The broader context shows divergence: the monthly timeframe remains bullish with price above all key moving averages and the Supertrend, whereas the weekly structure is bearish relative to moving averages but holds a bullish Supertrend. This suggests the stock is in a consolidation phase within a longer-term uptrend. Key monitoring levels include the ₹1,729 pivot for upside confirmation and the ₹1,684 floor for downside risk.

### News Context

On November 2, 2026, Tata Communications and its co-shareholders KKR and Singtel initiated a dual-track process to sell their stakes in STT Global Data Centres India Private Ltd (STT GDC India). The transaction targets a valuation exceeding $5.5 billion for the data centre platform, which operates 34 facilities across 10 locations with a total capacity of 613 MW. An earlier plan to list STT GDC India via an Indian IPO remains under evaluation as part of this dual-track initiative.

In separate market commentary on the same date, SEBI-registered analysts from Choice Equity Broking and Bonanza Portfolio highlighted Tata Communications among five stocks with technical setups suggesting potential upward movements, citing better-than-estimated Q2 earnings and improving macro indicators such as passenger vehicle sales and GST collections. ### Fundamentals

Tata Communications demonstrates a strengthening operational trajectory in Q2 FY2026-27, marked by sequential revenue growth and significant margin expansion. Revenue from operations rose to ₹6,687.89 crore, up from ₹6,582.82 crore in Q1, while expenses decreased sequentially to ₹6,204.86 crore. This leverage drove Profit Before Tax (PBT) to ₹462.90 crore, nearly doubling the Q1 figure of ₹211.38 crore, with Net Profit climbing sharply to ₹335.61 crore from ₹129.72 crore. The TTM net profit stands at ₹1,089 crore against sales of ₹26,014 crore.

Earnings quality appears robust, supported by improving cash conversion; CFO/EBITDA reached 108% for Mar 2026, indicating strong operating cash generation relative to profits. However, balance-sheet dynamics show rising borrowings, which increased to ₹13,369 crore as of Sep 2026 from ₹12,249 crore in Mar 2026. Interest costs also ticked up to ₹197.91 crore in Q2 FY2026-27. While Return on Equity has moderated from historical highs (74% over 5 years to 33% last year), the company’s asset base expanded, with total assets reaching ₹29,010.66 crore as of Sep 2026, driven largely by an increase in Property, Plant, and Equipment to ₹9,365.07 crore. Institutional ownership shifted slightly, with DIIs increasing their stake to 20.21% while FIIs held 13.55%.

The critical checkpoint is whether the recent surge in profitability can be sustained as interest costs remain elevated and capital expenditure continues to grow, particularly given the rise in borrowings and goodwill to ₹2,493.81 crore.

- Q2 FY2026-27 PBT surged to ₹462.90 crore (from ₹211.38 crore in Q1) as revenue grew to ₹6,687.89 crore while expenses fell sequentially.
- Cash conversion improved significantly, with CFO/EBITDA reaching 108% in Mar 2026, signaling high earnings quality.
- Borrowings rose to ₹13,369 crore as of Sep 2026, and interest costs increased to ₹197.91 crore in Q2, pressuring net margins.
- Total assets expanded to ₹29,010.66 crore, with PPE growing to ₹9,365.07 crore and goodwill rising to ₹2,493.81 crore.

### Bull Case

Tata Communications presents a conditional upside case anchored in the potential monetization of its data centre assets and structural technical support on longer timeframes. The company is part of a dual-track process to sell STT Global Data Centres India, targeting a valuation exceeding $5.5 billion. This strategic move aims to rebalance capital requirements for the global group while allowing Tata Communications to streamline expansion through partnerships with TPG and TCS. From a market structure perspective, while the daily trend is bearish with a current drawdown of -17.3%, the monthly and weekly trends remain bullish. The stock closed at ₹1,704.9 on November 6, 2026, with resistance levels identified at ₹1,729.23 (1.43% above) and ₹1,758.47 (3.14% above). A constructive interpretation relies on the successful execution of the asset sale or IPO, which could unlock value and improve capital efficiency, alongside the resilience shown by the monthly bullish signal despite near-term volatility.

### Bear Case

Tata Communications faces near-term technical weakness and significant capital allocation uncertainty. On a daily basis, the stock is trading below its 20-day exponential moving average with a bearish super-trend signal, indicating short-term downward pressure. The share price has declined 7.4% over the past year and is down 5.9% year-to-date as of November 6, 2026, while currently sitting in a 17.3% drawdown from recent highs. Although the monthly trend remains bullish, the divergence between short-term bearishness and longer-term positioning highlights volatility. Concurrently, the company is part of a dual-track process to sell STT Global Data Centres India at a valuation exceeding $5.5 billion. This strategic move aims to rebalance global capital requirements but introduces execution risk and potential dilution or liquidity shifts associated with the sale and potential IPO of the data centre arm.

- Daily technical indicators show bearish momentum: ADX (14) is low at 17.38, plus_DI (20.46) barely exceeds minus_DI (18.82), and the super-trend direction is bearish.
- The stock is underperforming on medium-term horizons, with a 1-year return of -7.4% and a YTD decline of -5.9%, alongside a current drawdown of -17.3%.
- Shareholders KKR, Singtel, and Tata Communications are pursuing the sale of STT GDC India for over $5.5 billion, creating operational and capital structure uncertainty during the dual-track sale and IPO evaluation process.

Total expenses were ₹6,204.86 crore, down 1.2% sequentially from ₹6,278.02 crore and up 4.9% year on year from ₹5,913.57 crore. Employee benefit expense was ₹1,178.75 crore and depreciation, depletion and amortisation expense was ₹740.94 crore.

Profit before exceptional items and tax was ₹499.44 crore, up from ₹317.74 crore in the June quarter but down 6.6% year on year from ₹534.69 crore. The exceptional-item charge narrowed to ₹36.54 crore from ₹106.36 crore in June and ₹76.78 crore a year earlier. After exceptional items, profit before tax was ₹462.90 crore, up 119.0% sequentially and 1.1% year on year. Finance costs increased to ₹197.91 crore from ₹185.90 crore in the June quarter.

## Profit and earnings per share

Tax expense was ₹124.04 crore, compared with ₹86.01 crore in June and ₹100.79 crore a year earlier. Profit for the period was ₹335.61 crore, up from ₹129.72 crore sequentially but down 7.9% year on year from ₹364.23 crore. Basic earnings per share were ₹11.96, compared with ₹4.71 in June and ₹12.82 a year earlier.

The sequential recovery in pre-tax profit was substantial, but period profit and EPS remained below their year-earlier levels despite revenue growth.

## Comprehensive income

Comprehensive income for the period was ₹351.55 crore, compared with ₹93.17 crore in June and ₹456.50 crore a year earlier. Other comprehensive income was ₹15.94 crore.

## Balance sheet and borrowings

At 30 September 2026, total assets were ₹29,010.66 crore, up from ₹28,403.94 crore at 30 June. Property, plant and equipment stood at ₹9,365.07 crore, while capital work in progress was ₹1,120.81 crore. Goodwill was ₹2,493.81 crore and investments accounted for using the equity method were ₹2,331.73 crore.

Current borrowings increased to ₹4,874.38 crore from ₹4,412.04 crore, while non-current borrowings rose to ₹6,980.16 crore from ₹6,169.64 crore. Together, borrowings increased by ₹1,272.86 crore during the quarter. Cash and cash equivalents fell to ₹438.01 crore from ₹641.96 crore. Total liabilities were ₹25,411.51 crore and equity attributable to owners of the parent was ₹3,401.18 crore.

The quarter-end position therefore combined higher borrowings with lower cash, making the change in funding balances relevant alongside the earnings recovery.

## Working capital balances

Trade receivables were ₹4,604.13 crore at 30 September, up from ₹4,171.10 crore at 30 June. Trade payables were ₹4,263.89 crore, down from ₹4,317.31 crore, while inventories increased to ₹134.17 crore from ₹100.36 crore. Receivables rose alongside revenue, adding to the working-capital balances investors will want to track.

## Management Commentary

Management described Q2 FY2027 as a strong quarter with improved profitability, citing a 9.6% year-on-year rise in gross revenue and 18.6% growth in digital platform revenue. The investor presentation shows digital margins improving to -3.6% in Q2 from -6.9% in Q1 as digital losses narrowed. CEO Ganesh Lakshminarayanan attributed the progress to the company's discipline and focus, and pointed to its Unified AI Stack as a growth driver. The company also disclosed a contingent liability of ₹7,513.71 crore related to Department of Telecommunications show-cause notices on AGR license fees, a exposure that sits alongside the higher borrowings reported this quarter.

## Key Takeaway
Tata Communications delivered 8.1% year-on-year revenue growth and a sharp sequential recovery in pre-tax profit. Yet profit for the period and EPS remained below the year-earlier quarter, while borrowings increased and cash declined from June. The key contrast is between continued top-line growth and weaker year-on-year bottom-line performance, alongside a less liquid quarter-end funding position.
