### Technical Outlook

NLCINDIA is trading at ₹237.89, maintaining a bearish technical structure across daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes as of 2026-11-06. The price remains below all key moving averages (20-day, 50-day, and 200-day) and the Supertrend indicator, confirming persistent downward pressure. While the daily trend strength is developing (ADX 24.4), the monthly trend is strong (ADX 46.84), indicating that the broader momentum favors sellers. The stock is positioned near the lower end of its 252-day range (+9.4%) but sits in the middle of its 20-day range (+43.4%). A significant volume-driven upward anomaly on 2026-11-04 (+7.5% return with 7.55x volume ratio) suggests active participation, yet the price has failed to sustain above immediate resistance levels. Key support lies at ₹236.68 (0.51% below), while resistance clusters around ₹245.79–₹245.88 (3.32–3.36% above). An active monthly Inside Bar pattern indicates consolidation; a break above ₹245.88 would be required to challenge the bearish bias, whereas a close below ₹236.68 risks testing lower supports at ₹231.89.

### Fundamentals

NLC India’s financial trajectory for FY2026 shows robust top-line growth but a notable divergence in near-term profitability. Revenue rose to ₹17,519 crore in FY2026 (up from ₹15,322 crore in FY2025), with TTM sales reaching ₹18,381 crore. However, the most recent quarterly data reveals a sequential compression in operating efficiency: while Q2 FY2026-27 revenue was stable at ₹4,732 crore, Profit Before Tax dropped sharply to ₹296 crore from ₹574 crore in Q1, driven by rising expenses and finance costs. Despite this, Net Profit surged to ₹1,328 crore in Q2, suggesting non-operating gains or tax benefits offsetting operational headwinds.

Earnings quality remains strong historically, with CFO/EBITDA conversion averaging over 100% in recent years, though it dipped to 109% in FY2026. The balance sheet reflects active expansion; Fixed Assets grew to ₹36,596 crore and Property, Plant & Equipment reached ₹40,490 crore as of September 2026. Borrowings increased to ₹27,892 crore, and interest costs rose to ₹1,222 crore in FY2026. Working capital management improved significantly, with the Cash Conversion Cycle shortening to 70 days. Shareholding patterns show a slight dilution in promoter holding (to 69.47%) and an increase in FII stakes (to 4.61%).

- Revenue Growth vs. Margin Pressure: TTM sales are ₹18,381 crore, but Q2 FY2026-27 PBT fell sequentially to ₹296 crore from ₹574 crore due to higher expenses and finance costs.
- Asset Expansion & Leverage: Fixed assets grew to ₹36,596 crore (FY2026) and borrowings rose to ₹27,892 crore, indicating continued capex-funded expansion.
- Cash Flow Efficiency: Operating cash flow was ₹5,166 crore in FY2026, with the Cash Conversion Cycle improving to 70 days from 106 days in FY2024.
- Next Checkpoint: Monitor if Q3 FY2026-27 operating margins stabilize after the Q1-Q2 sequential decline, and whether rising interest costs continue to impact net profitability.

### Bull Case

NLC India presents a conditional upside case anchored by aggressive strategic expansion and recent financial momentum, despite prevailing bearish technical trends. The company has approved an initial public offering for its renewable energy subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), involving the sale of up to 10 crore shares in a ₹4,000-crore IPO expected in FY27. This move signals a structural shift toward regulated equity assets, which Elara Securities cites as a driver for growth, leading to a 'Buy' rating with a target price of ₹387. Financially, the company reported 13.3% year-over-year revenue growth and an 83.2% increase in profit after tax, driven by a deferred tax credit. Although Q2 net profit declined nearly 50% to ₹465 crore due to higher fuel prices and prior-year inventory benefits, the authorization of a ₹2,500 crore debt fundraise through debentures provides capital flexibility for these expansion plans. While the stock trades at ₹237.89 with significant drawdowns, the combination of earnings growth, strategic divestment potential, and analyst optimism forms the basis for a constructive interpretation contingent on successful execution of the renewable energy transition.

- Strategic Expansion: Approved sale of up to 10 crore shares in NIRL’s ₹4,000-crore IPO (FY27) and authorized ₹2,500 crore debt fundraise to support renewable energy growth.
- Financial Momentum: Reported 13.3% YoY revenue growth and an 83.2% surge in PAT (driven by deferred tax credit), prompting Elara Securities to upgrade to 'Buy' with a ₹387 target.
- Market Context: Stock currently trades at ₹237.89 amid bearish technical indicators and a -35.9% current drawdown, contrasting with the fundamental expansion narrative.
- Profitability Headwinds: Q2 net profit fell nearly 50% to ₹465 crore due to higher fuel costs and one-off prior-year benefits, highlighting operational volatility.

### Bear Case

NLC India faces significant near-term headwinds driven by margin pressure and technical weakness. The company reported a nearly 50% drop in Q2 net profit to ₹465 crore, attributed to higher fuel prices and the absence of prior-year inventory benefits, despite revenue growing 13.3%. This earnings contraction coincides with a severe technical downtrend; the stock has declined 26.2% over six months and is currently trading 35.9% below its recent peak. Technical indicators across daily, weekly, and monthly timeframes are uniformly bearish, with the Supertrend signaling downside momentum and moving averages sloping negatively. While the company plans to raise ₹2,500 crore via debentures and list its renewable arm, these capital-raising activities occur alongside an ongoing equity dilution risk from the proposed sale of up to 10 crore shares in the NIRL IPO.

- Q2 Net Profit fell ~50% to ₹465 crore due to higher fuel costs and lower inventory benefits, contrasting with 13.3% revenue growth.
- Stock price is down 26.2% over six months and -35.9% from highs, with all timeframe Supertrends indicating a bearish bias.
- Technical resistance is clustered near ₹245–₹250, while immediate support lies at ₹236.68, limiting upside potential.
- Company authorized a ₹2,500 crore debt fundraise and plans an IPO for its renewable subsidiary involving the sale of 10 crore shares.

Revenue from operations was ₹4,732 crore in Q2 FY2026-27, up 13.3% year on year and marginally higher than in Q1 FY2026-27. Expenses grew faster, reducing pre-tax profit by 59.5% year on year; a substantial tax benefit lifted reported profit for the period to ₹1,328 crore, up 83.2% year on year.

## Revenue and costs

Revenue from operations increased from ₹4,178 crore in Q2 FY2025-26 to ₹4,732 crore in Q2 FY2026-27, and was nearly unchanged from ₹4,717 crore in Q1 FY2026-27. Total income was ₹4,827 crore, compared with ₹4,347 crore a year earlier and ₹4,868 crore in the preceding quarter.

Expenses rose 25.3% year on year to ₹4,531 crore and 5.5% quarter on quarter. Other expenses were ₹1,508 crore, up 3.9% from Q2 FY2025-26 and 7.1% from Q1 FY2026-27. Finance costs increased to ₹438 crore from ₹289 crore a year earlier and ₹382 crore in the preceding quarter.

## Pre-tax profit and tax benefit

Profit before tax was ₹296 crore, down from ₹731 crore in Q2 FY2025-26 and ₹574 crore in Q1 FY2026-27. The tax line was a benefit of ₹863 crore, compared with tax expenses of ₹197 crore a year earlier and ₹215 crore in the preceding quarter. This included a deferred-tax benefit of ₹988 crore, partly offset by current tax expense of ₹124 crore and a ₹169 crore charge for regulatory deferral account balances.

Profit for the period consequently rose to ₹1,328 crore from ₹725 crore in Q2 FY2025-26 and ₹436 crore in Q1 FY2026-27. Basic earnings per share were ₹9.96, versus ₹5.23 and ₹3.49 in those respective quarters. The increase in reported profit therefore contrasts with the substantial decline in pre-tax profit.

## Cash flow and balance sheet

Operating cash flow was ₹2,772 crore in the quarter. Investing activities used ₹1,997 crore, while financing activities used ₹836 crore.

At 30 September 2026, property, plant and equipment stood at ₹40,490 crore, up from ₹36,344 crore at 30 June 2026; capital work in progress declined to ₹11,306 crore from ₹14,293 crore. Current and non-current borrowings together were ₹28,158 crore, compared with ₹27,802 crore at the preceding quarter-end. Cash and cash equivalents were ₹651 crore at 30 September 2026.

## Key Takeaway

Q2 combined year-on-year revenue growth with faster expense growth and a steep fall in pre-tax profit. The tax benefit drove higher reported profit, making the underlying pre-tax result the more important measure of the quarter’s operating performance.
