## Quarterly financials

- Latest complete quarter: fy27_q1

# Net Profit Declines Despite Interest Income Growth as Provisions Surge

In the quarter ended 30 June 2026, Jammu & Kashmir Bank’s total income rose 6.9% from a year earlier, led by higher interest earnings. However, net profit fell 12.5% as a sharp increase in provisions and contingencies outpaced a modest rise in operating profit. Asset quality improved further, and the capital ratio strengthened.

## Income Composition

Total income was ₹3,764.96 crore, compared with ₹3,522.65 crore in the same quarter last year. Interest earned, the largest component, increased 8.5% to ₹3,547.48 crore. Within interest earned, interest on advances stood at ₹2,685.10 crore, while revenue on investments was ₹722.36 crore – little changed from ₹723.30 crore a year ago.

Other income declined 14.1% to ₹217.48 crore, partially offsetting the gain from interest income.

## Expense Structure

Expenditure excluding provisions and contingencies totalled ₹3,060.13 crore, up 7.4% from ₹2,848.20 crore a year earlier. Interest expended rose 13.7% to ₹2,048.70 crore, making it the largest single expense. Employee cost edged down 1.5% to ₹653.22 crore, and other operating expenses fell 6.4% to ₹358.21 crore.

## Profitability and Provisions

Operating profit before provisions and contingencies was ₹704.83 crore, a 4.5% increase from ₹674.45 crore last year. Profit before tax fell 5.9% to ₹620.80 crore, and net profit after tax declined 12.5% to ₹425.32 crore.

The divergence between operating profit and pre‑tax profit points to a substantial rise in provisions. In the year‑ago quarter, provisions (operating profit minus profit before tax) amounted to ₹15.09 crore. In the current quarter they were ₹84.03 crore – more than a fivefold increase.

Net interest income (interest earned minus interest expended) was ₹1,498.78 crore, up 2.2% from ₹1,466.81 crore a year earlier, as the absolute increase in interest earned exceeded the rise in interest expended.

## Asset Quality and Capital

Gross non‑performing assets (GNPA) fell to ₹3,088.94 crore from ₹3,638.19 crore a year ago, a reduction of 15.1%. The GNPA ratio improved to 2.37% from 3.5%, and also edged down from 2.5% in the preceding quarter.

The bank’s CET1 ratio rose to 13.75% from 12.7% a year earlier. Return on assets (annualised) decreased to 0.87% from 1.17%, reflecting the lower net profit relative to the asset base.

## Segment Performance

Segment revenue from operations matched total income at ₹3,764.96 crore. Segment profit before tax was ₹428.80 crore, compared with ₹486.00 crore in the year‑ago period – a decline of 11.8%. The difference between segment profit and the total profit before tax of ₹620.80 crore is consistent with unallocated items in the segment reporting.

## Key Takeaway

Revenue growth from lending activities was offset by a steep increase in provisions and a notable rise in interest expenses, leading to a 12.5% fall in net profit. Asset quality continued to improve and the CET1 ratio strengthened. However, the jump in provisions, even as NPAs declined, weighed significantly on profitability compared with the same quarter last year.
